His Worship Issah Sserunkuma
The\r\nJudicial Service Commission appointed 10 new Magistrates at the level of Grade\r\nOne Magistrate. Two of the appointed Magistrates were appointed on promotion\r\nnamely: His Worship Issah Sserunkuma from the level of Principal Grade One\r\nMagistrate to Chief Magistrate and Her Worship Janeva Natukunda from the level of Grade One Magistrate to\r\nPrincipal Grade One Magistrate.

The\r\nSecretary of the Commission, Mr. Kagole Kivumbi explained that the appointments\r\nwere to try to fill the gaps left after the retirement from Judicial Service of\r\na number of Grade Two Magistrates; he further explained that because of the ongoing\r\nprocess of phasing out the Grade Two Magistrates, the Commission had the capacity\r\nto provide the number of Magistrates requested in the Judiciary. The process of\r\npromotion of Judicial Officers is still ongoing though next phase would be\r\nafter the appointment of High Court Judges.

The\r\nappointment of the new Magistrates brings the total number in the country to\r\nabout 269 Magistrates regardless of their rank.
